Hi HuskyADAPT!We have a lot of exciting events coming up! Please see below for ways to join in. In particular, we are still looking for a couple of volunteers to help with a GoBabyGo car build this Friday.HuskyADAPT events and opportunities:

GoBabyGo! Car Build

August 7th, 8 am - 2 pm

GoBabyGo!, our sister organization in Rehabilitation Medicine, is hosting a ride-on car build this Friday (8/7) from 8 am - 2 pm on the UW campus. UW GoBabyGo works with families, children, and community partners to provide modified ride-on cars that promote early mobility for children with disabilities. If you love adapting toys with us, you will absolutely love this event! All volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated and wear masks during the build. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Anya Prasad (aprasa) by tomorrow (August 3rd).

HuskyADAPT 2021-2022 Design Project Submissions

We are currently collecting project ideas for our design program for the 2021-2022 school year. Each year, HuskyADAPT forms teams of students from engineering, rehabilitation medicine, and other departments at UW to tackle design projects related to accessible design and play technology. If you or someone you know has an idea for a project that our design teams can work on this year, please fill out kayab) with any questions about the application.

August Toy Adaptation

August 24th, 3 - 5 pm

Please join us for our August toy adaptation event on August 24th from 3 - 5 pm. The event will be in-person on the UW campus and is open to UW students, faculty, and staff in the HuskyADAPT community but an RSVP is required. No prior toy adaptation experience is necessary but an sloanm4) with questions about this event.

HuskyADAPT Mechanical Engineering Capstone Project

Do you want to do your senior design capstone with HuskyADAPT? HuskyADAPT will be sponsoring a senior design capstone project through the mechanical engineering department this year. If you are a senior in mechanical engineering or a related department with similar capstone requirements and are interested in working with HuskyADAPT on an accessibility-focused capstone, please email Alyssa Spomer (aspomer).

HuskyADAPT WiSE Toy Adaptation Event Earlier this summer we hosted a toy adaptation event with the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Summer Bridge Program. Thank you to WiSE for joining us for the event and to all of our volunteers for their help ensuring everything ran smoothly!

Some members from our student executive board met earlier this summer to adapt toys and chat about the upcoming year. We have an incredibly talented and motivated student executive board that is gearing up for another awesome year with HuskyADAPT!

Call for study participants

Screening questionnaire

We are a group of researchers from The University of Washington, and we would like to invite you to participate in a study to help develop new touch metrics to make touch screens more accessible to people with fine motor control challenges. Study participants will complete a series of pointing tasks on an interactive tabletop and answer a short questionnaire on the task. The study takes about 45 minutes and no more than an hour. The compensation for the study will be $40 cash for completing the study. Eligible participants must be atleast 18 years old, be in the greater Seattle area, have limited fine motor function, and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or be able to wear a face mask. Friday August 20th, 4:30 - 7:30 pm

The Seattle Children's PlayGarden is hosting a family-friendly barbeque to celebrate the completion of the Pathway for Play project on Friday, August 20th. The event is open to all and will include music, food, drinks, and guest performances. You can learn more about the Seattle Children's PlayGarden and its mission here!
